In addition to Flash and Sugarhill, Mell also will present some of hip hop’s most influential DJs and MCs – Grand Wizzard Theodore, Melle Mel & Scorpio, Jazzy Jay, DJ Skribble, and Scram Jones – for what promises to be a very memorable evening. Sponsored by ROCAVAKA; gear by Pioneer DJ; and audio by RCF. Party runs from 11 pm to closing.

DJX ’23 After Dark: Mell Starr & Friends Celebrate 50 Years of Hip Hop

According to legend, it all started Aug. 11, 1973, at a “back to school jam” thrown in a Bronx apartment building’s rec room with DJ Kool Herc on the decks. Historians seem to agree that all the elements of hip-hop came together that night. Fifty years later, hip hop has not only taken over the music world, launching DJs and MCs into the stratosphere, but it’s permanently impacted pop culture at large – fashion, sports, language, you name it. Hip hop remains bigger than ever.

So, at DJX ’23, come celebrate with DJ Mell Starr & Friends as we honor “50 Years of Hip Hop” and welcome some of the most prominent fixtures of hip-hop culture – from its foundational days to its modern incarnation – as they perform at DAER nightclub in the Hard Rock on Wednesday night, Aug. 9, from 11 pm until closing. Performers include: Grandmaster Flash; Grand Wizzard Theodore; Jazzy Jay; Scram Jones; DJ Skribble; Scorpio & Melle Mel; and The Sugarhill Gang.

Sponsored by ROCAVAKA, Gear by Pioneer DJ, and Audio by RCF.
